Show AROUND THE CORNER IN SUGAR HOUSE by D. James Cannon . SUGAR HOUSE will garner more limelight this weekend if all you folks will turn out at the State Fair Grounds on Friday and Saturday night and cheer for Lou Ann Birkbeck "Miss Sugar House of 1951." The contest con-test will get underway at 8 each night, so make arrangements to be there and give our queen the needed boost in her campaign cam-paign for the title of "Miss Utah of 1952.' ONE LOCAL MAN is going all out for this contest, and we should all follow his example. That's Neuman Petty who has donated a brand new Ford for three days to Lou Ann as she gads around for her various appointments. Frankie Niel-son Niel-son has done a wonderful job as Lou Ann's special advisor, so she deserves a vote of thanks too. WASN'T THE BREAD baking bak-ing contest terrific? There were : smoothly. A hearty vote of thanks to all of these nice people. ; 584 entries taken in from 10 ' a.m. to 4 p.m. last Monday. Mrs. Harlan (Jerry) Clark, and Mr. 1 and Mrs. Grant (Marsha) Mid-1 Mid-1 gley worked the whole day and into the evening registering the entries. Jerry said she brought over some sewing and reading-material, reading-material, thinking she would have time on her hands, but she was rushed right from the start. When the crowd got really big, an urgent call was put in to Marian Kenward and Frankie Nielson. They both responded, and so the affair went off quite THE FREE BREAKFAST a week ago was one of the highlights high-lights in the history of Sugar House. More than 3000 people were served without a hitch. Folks are still talking about it. Allen Coombs, Walt Peterson, Peter-son, Clarence Rockwood, the Pillsbury boys and their associates, as-sociates, the women member of the chamber of commerce, all deserve special appreciation for a tremendous job well done. LAST WEEK, we were a little dilatory with this column, so it wasn't printed. But for the record we should say that Paul Pehrson conducted a wonderful chamber meeting on Sept. 11. A lot of business was handled efficiently and with good humor, and a lot of members turned out. We said goodbye to Sid Ottley, whom we will miss greatly. |
