Show VALUE FOR VALUE Girl Scouts Celebrate 39tli Birthday; Start Cookie Drive Girl Scout Birthday Week and the organization's annual Cookie Sale will be celebrated March 5 to March 17. The Birthday Week, which honors the 39th anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouts, will be culminated Sunday, March 11, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum with a program entitled "Scouts' Own." The program will colorfully present the role that the Girl Scouts play in establishing world friendship and understanding. under-standing. Costumes of foreign countries will be worn, with ' every Girl Scout in Salt Lake City and County participating. COOKIE SALE On Monday, March 12, the Girl Scout Cookie Drive will get underway according to Mrs. William C. Ware, 2461 Highland High-land Drive, representative from the southeast area on the central cen-tral committee. Purpose of the drive is to have the girls raise funds to assist in the financing of their own program. The drive is not to get donations, but to give "equal value for money received," according to Mrs. Ware. Each troop receives a share of the money received, and the remainder re-mainder goes to the local council coun-cil for the upkeep of buildings and equipment at Girl Scout Camps, such as Camp Cloud Rim above Park City, and the Girl Scout Farmhouse at Mountain Moun-tain Dell. BOOTH AT PLAZA The Sugar House Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a booth at the Plaza on Saturday, March 17, under the direction of Margaret Mar-garet Swanson, manager of the Grabeteria in Sugar House, and the leader of Troop 47. Cooperation Coop-eration of the Sugar House Rotary Ro-tary Club, Rotary Anns and the Lions Club is also being asked, Mrs. Ware said. Prizes will be awarded to the girls doing the best job of cookie selling. |
