Show EDITORIALS The Southeast's Great Potential IN ANY street corner discussion which deals with the southeast south-east area there is usually great optimism for the future of this section, whether it be in residential, commercial, or cultural cul-tural development. There are some who point to the scenic beauty in the southeast: the canyons, the unsurpassed beauty of this part of the Wasatch range, the cleanliness of the air, and the lovely views of the valley from nearly any part of the southeast. (( Others say that the southeast area may become the cultural cul-tural center of the west," because of its great vitality and its many opportunities for development along this line. There are many who sec in the southeast one of the finest residential sections in the United States. There are also those who Sly that this secti'.m has just entered the threshold of great commercial com-mercial expansion. The word which almost always enters into the conversations, conversa-tions, however, is that very important word, "if." The southeast south-east will always be a center of scenic beauty, if we can plan wisely to enhance the natural beauty with suitable man-made developments. The southeast will be famed as a cultural point, if we take advantage of land now available for future development develop-ment as cultural centers. These people cite chiP.y the prison site-state park as the central part of their plans. The southeast south-east will continue to develop as a residential center if housing projects are wisely planned for the years to come as well as to satisfy present needs. It will have an important commercial commer-cial future if more attention is given to zoning, parking lots, business buildings and needs. It is inconceivable that one man or one group of men, such as we have in our city and county governments, can hope to do all this planning, meet and solve all the problems, unless the citizens give them help and suggestions. It is certainly not the desire of most southeasterncrs to make demands on the city or county commissions which will be harmful to other communities of the county or state. There is a growing, wholesome feeling that the people themselves should do everything every-thing they can to help their neighborhoods and communities, and when necessary to go before government authorities, to be wisely prepared to present the needs of the citizenry. Anyone who has a particle of interest in the southeast area would do well to lend his thoughts and efforts to groups and organizations which are laboring diligently to make the southeast south-east area "the best place in the world" for everyone who lives or works here- |
