Show Workmen Dig Up Old Skeletons A number of Indian skeletons, including seven skulls, were unearthed un-earthed last Thursday by workmen work-men excavating for a housing subdivision at 4620 12th East. While digging away at a dirt and gravel bank, the big Caterpillar Cater-pillar and carryall exposed a hole from which the skeletons protruded. ' O. R. Woodbury, construction foreman for Woodbury Corp., the contractors called the Salt Lake County sheriff's office, and Deputies Paul M. Mazuran and Chris M. Rushton were dispatched. dis-patched. No Foul Play It took three members of the University of Utah anthropology anthropol-ogy department, Prof. E. Adam-son Adam-son Hoebel, Assoc. Prof. Jesse D. Jennings and William C. Blair to establish that no foul play was involved. The bones were human, all right, but 700 years old. Mr. Blair pointed out that the skeletons, including seven skulls, were Indian remains, probably part of a Pueblo burial ground. Most of the bones were those of teen-agers. Mr. Blair said that it was "most unusual" to find so many in a single plot, in this instance in-stance less than three square feet |
