Show Metropolitan Tenor Slated at Granite Arts Concert March 9 if.-' John Carter, tenor of the Metropolitan Opera Association and of concert and ridio, will appear at the Granite High School Auditorium, 5th East and 33rd South, on March 9. S:15 p.m. Presented by Granite Arts Association, this concert will be the seventh of the 1918--19 season. Mr. Carter was born in New York City. He attended the College Col-lege of the City of New York where he studied engineering. His college career was cut short by the depression. It was at this time he took up the study of voice, and almost at once began be-gan to supplement his income with church soloist appearances and engagements with clubs and at banquets. Opera Auditions His first important opportunity opportun-ity came when he entered the Metropolitan Opera Auditions of the Air and was chosen for a contract with the Metropolitan. Radio and movie offers were plentiful after this, and he accepted ac-cepted the stellar role on the Sunday evening hour which Nelson Nel-son Eddy was leaving temporarily. tem-porarily. Overnight Success Carter was an overnight success suc-cess on the radio. Since that time Carter ihas consolidated his early successes with several season.-, at the Metropolitan in New York and in the Spring Tour of the company he has sung in Cleveland, Cleve-land, Boston, Baltimore, Dallas, Atlanta, New Orleans; recital TEXOR Metropolitan Opera star gives concert March !). tours have taken him from coast to coast in the United States and Canada, and radio appearnces include the Chase & Sanborn Hour, Coca Cola, Libbey-Owens-Ford and Kellogg hours and numerous other broadcasts. For over four years all of Carter's talents and abilities were absorbed in his role as Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy from 1912 until 1946. Concert is scheduled to start at 8:15 p.m..
