Show w WAR MAN POWER COMMISSION REGION XI. I The operating " (report ' for the Salt Lake U.S.E.S. shows a total 'of 1,986 placements of actual hires made out of 2,922 referrals during the month of April. Of that number 108 were veterans and 50 disabled. Only 29 were short time placements and 14 were non-whites. 703 were women. The current labof demands list amounts to 6,682. Placements would be higher if employers who possibly could use women would specify that on their orders. It is an absolute fact that there isn't enough male help to go around. For that reason, -the heavy duty industries must have first consideration con-sideration for what remains. Female Fe-male help is available, yet only ,10 per cent of the existing orders in the office ask for women. In that connection it is estimated that 20 per cent to 35 per cent of the 6,682 orders could be filled by women. The Industrial Commission will 'clear women for many occupations occupa-tions which are usually handled by men. The Salt Lake area has been delinquent to fully utilize womanpower. The shortage of male help is going to get worse before it gets better. The area for some time past has been critically in need of clerically trained women, wom-en, but at the present time, there is a slight surplus of well-trained typists and stenographers. A few of that surplus are students available avail-able only for summer employment |
