Show 9,045,683 Shipping Tons Lost by European Axis LONDON. During the first 36 months of the war, up to June 30, 9,045,683 gross tons of German and Italian shipping have been captured, sunk or damaged by surface ships, submarines, planes and mines, the admiralty announced recently. The announcement did not say whether the credit belonged to the British navy or to the navies of the United States and others of the United Unit-ed Nations. It explained, however, that the figures did not include losses inflicted on Japanese shipping or I successes by the Russian naval' forces, No estimate of enemy ten- 1 nage immobilized by Britain's blockade block-ade in the ports of countries not at war with Germany was given. |
