Show WAR MANPOWER COMMISSION REPORT The Salt Lake Office of the War Manpower Commission United Unit-ed States Employment Service processed a total number of 10, 419 applicants during the month of March, 1944. 4,437 person were referred immediately to job openings op-enings and 2,680 of these were placements or hires. An additional 782 applicants were given placements place-ments assistance. 478 of the hires were women and only 26 were short-term workers. Some employers employ-ers are still not fully utilizing the available labor supply of women, part-time, short-term and handicapped handi-capped workers. There were 3,484 applications for statement of availability, 2,910 of which were issued to applicants ap-plicants who had a "job completed complet-ed termination slip from their employer which automatically entitled en-titled them to a statement of availability. . In other instances, statements of ' availability which which should have been given by the employer were issued by the local office. Some employers do not fully understand that their part in the employment stabilization stabiliza-tion program includes the issuance of a statement of availabiity to an essential worker when he clearly has a justifiable reason for receiving one. This lack of understanding results in too many workers being unnesessarly routed rout-ed to the local office of the War-Manpower War-Manpower Commission U.S. Employment Em-ployment Service. However, every worker in a critical occupation available for employment must be refered by this office. |
