Show WAR FOOD CHIEF AMD ARMY HEADS STRESS FAT HEED A joint statement of War Food Administration and War Production Produc-tion Board, released by the Office of Uar Information, recently announced an-nounced that full responsibility for the program of salvaging used us-ed fat has been transferred from War Production Board to War Food Administration. "The importance of fat salvage in the government's fat conservation conserva-tion program is reflected in this change," said Roy W. Peet, chairman chair-man of the American Fat Salvage Sal-vage Committee, "because the nation's supply of food fats is definitely dependent on how much used fat is returned for industriaj use. "Lee Marshall, director of dis tribution minces no words in saying that if we are to avoid the necessity of going into reserve re-serve stocks of food fats for industrial in-dustrial purposes, household fat must come to the resecue of industry, in-dustry, and be fully utilized," continued Mr. Peet. "Mr. Marshall also cites figures which indicate a reduction of about a billion pounds in the 1945 fats and oil supply as compared with 1944. This principayly because be-cause of lower contemplated yields in some of the domestic oil seed crops, a sizable drop in the expected hog slaughter this fall and winter, and the continued continu-ed unavailability of imports from the South Pacific "Mr. Marshall's statements are even more important when they are interpreted in the light of recent Istatements from General Eisenhower and General Somervell, Somer-vell, Mr. Peet pointed out.
