Show LOST BY JAPANESE FISHERMEN FT "faafr.fa I - d " i nl? REEDSPORT. OREGON Owing to a shortage of wood in Japan, their deepsea fishermen have had j to use glass balls, like the one in the photo, for net floats in stead ot wooden one. rnese giass balls, which are hollow and in various var-ious sizes, were attached to the nets. Evidently the balls were not fastened securely, for thousands of them have been pickc' up along the beaches of the Oregon coast. They must have broken from the nets and been carried thousands of miles through the Pacific Ocean by the Japanese Cunent. which flows past the Oregon and Washington sho-es. The large one shown in the photo was found on the shores of Wan-! Wan-! Chester Bay at the mouth of the j Umpqua River in Oregon. |
