(Ted) IMoss Farewell Party Honors Senator Moss A farewell reception honored Democratic Senator-elec- t and Mrs. Frank E. (Ted) Moss Sunday afternoon at the New-h6us- e Hotel. Richard C. Howe, state com-mittee chairman, headed the committee of arrangements, when hundreds of well-wishe- rs and democratic party members Wished the Moss's and his , official party "bon voyage". Also feted were members of his staff, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Cowley and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Midgley. The reception was held from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. in the President's Suite of the hotel. Senator and Mrs. Moss left by plane later in the day and were bound for Washington. S. E. Man Will Present Statute To State A bronze statute of the famed Col. Thomas L. Kane will he unveiled and presented to the state of Utah, Wed., January '14th during appropri-ate ceremonies in the Capitol Building-- . Nicholas G. Morgan Sr., who commissioned the statute to be sculptured by Ortho Fair-bank- s, will present the statute to Secretary of State Lamont F. Toronto. The statute will stand on a marble pedestal just west of the rotunda. Principal speaker at the 11 a.m. ceremonies will be pres-ident David O. McKay. Mr. Morgan announced that Gov. George D. Clyde and members of the state legislature have been invited to the public ceremony. With the other honored guests will be two grandsons of the Colonel, E. O'Neill Kane Jr., and E. Kent Kane, both of Kane, Pennsylvania. Dr. Duddy Attends College Meet At Kansas City Dr. Frank E. Duddy, Jr., president of Westminster Col-lege, this week has been at-tending the annual meeting of the Association of American Colleges and a series of other sessions of affiliated groups being held in Kansas City, Mo. These concurrent meetings include Independent College Funds of America, Inc., the Presbyterian College Union the Congregational-Christia- n College Council, National As-sociati-of Schools and Col-leges of the Methodist Church, the Council of Protestant Col-leges and Universities, and a reunion of the Fifth Institute for College and University Administrators. Chandler Succeeds M. J. Wright As Chamber Head Prominent Sugar House business man, Joe L. Chandler, owner of the Jack and Jill Store in Sugar House, Tuesday was elected president of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member of the chamber for two years and also was president of the Days of '47 celebration for five years. He succeeds M. J. Wright. Vern W. Mackay was elected as vice president and has been a chamber member for eight years and is a former president of the group. Newly appointed board mem-bers officially took office Tuesday, including Stephen C. Richards, Walter O. Peterson, Vern W. Mackay and Mrs. Frankie Neilson. Y. U. He is a co-part- in the Stevens and Brown sporting goods store in Sugar House. Mrs. Ward Will Attend Aux. Meet Mrs. L. A. Ward, 1871 Con-nor St., Utah Department Chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary, will head a group from Utah who are attending a Western States Regional Rehibilitation Con-ference at Billings, Montana. Others attending the meet-ing include Hazel Bird.VAVS representative, Midvale and (Continued on page 5) Forsey Named President Of Furniture Assn. A prominent South East business and furniture dealer was named president of the Utah Furniture Association, when Harry Forsey, was elected this week. Forsey is head of the popular early American store on High-land Drive. And succeeds John Eberhardt, in the association office. Another Sugar House furn-iture executive named to the board was S. Calvin Sorensen ' of the South East Furniture " Company. Forsey grew up in Salt Lake and attended the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in military science and tactics. He served as second lieutenant in the field artillery during the war. And later was named t port security officer In Manila. . Following his return to civilian life he was ' employed by ZCMI in their furniture department, and founded his own business in 1951. O'Keefe Offers Services To U Medical Center Two important anoounce-ment- s were made this week regarding the University of Utah Medical Center Campaign. The Campaign, which i3 raising public funds to help construct a Medical Center to replace Utah's College of Medicine's present inadequate facilities, will use the slogan: "HELP THE HANDS THAT HEAL" - and J. P. O'Keefe of Salt Lake City volunteered his services as Chairman of the Campaign's Administra-tion Division. Selection of the campaign slogan was made by Marion C. Nelson, Salt Lake City advertising man, serving as chairman of the Public Infor-mation Committee. Enroll-ment of Mr. O'Keefe was made by Leland B. Flint, campaign chairman. Ralph Mecham, 30, of Salt Lake City, has been named administrative assistant to Senator Wallace F. Bennett, it was announced this week. Mr. Mecham, who has been a legislative assistant on the senator's staff since 1952, will replace Glendon E. Johnson, who has returned to Utah to resume the practice of law. Mr. Mecham was graduated from the University of Utah in 1951' with high honors, and taught one year in the Uni-versity's political science de-partment. In 1957 he received his law degree from George Washington University Law School. He served an LDS mission in Great Britain. L. Ralph Mecham Howe Named To Moss's Staff Allan T. Howe, president of the Young Democratic Clubs of Utah, will serve as field secretary " to Senator-elec- t Frank E. Moss, it was an-nounced this week.
