As unusual un-usual and useful as it3 cute, this tray holds baby's after-bath after-bath needs all in one place. We made it from an ordinary fruit box begged from the corner cor-ner fruit vendor. Then we stopped stop-ped at the 5 & 10 for a 4 ounce can of enamel paint, non-toxic and washable. Ours is pale pink, but you can choose any pastel color. The box got two coats of paint. While it was drying, we cut out the cunning Mother Goose-type pictures from Beech -Nut baby cereal boxes and glued them on two on the long sides and one each centered at the narrow ends 6f the box. The box was lined with rose-colored rose-colored felt (aqua in a white box, or pumpkin in a yellow one are charming, too). We took the precaution of glueing felt pieces to the bottom strips of wood that act as "feet". It makes certain that the box will be scratchproof on furniture. If you're good at free-hand lettering, you can draw "Baby" or the child's name on the front. If not, trace them with alphabetic alpha-betic stencils available at the dime store. Paint them in contrasting con-trasting or matching color. Fill the tray with small baby-needs. baby-needs. We painted the top of two empty baby food jars junior jun-ior size with the letters "cot" "ton" for cotton balls, another for cotton swabs, and a small empty meat jar was marked to hold safety pins. If the budget allows, you can add such bath necessities as baby powder, lo- . tion, and oil plus a half-dozen diapers. A strip of wood cut to fit and painted to match the . , box slides in to make a divider between the diaper section and the jars, but that's optional. |
