The Federal Women's Club is holding their annual installation and membership tea in the Oriental-style- d garden of Mrs. Melvin G. THE SUGAR HOUSE LIONS CLUB Sugar House Lions held their Installation Party at Oakridge Country Club, Shepherd's Lane, Highway 91, Farmington, Utah, on Monday, June 20th at 7:00 p.m. Officers for 1961 were installed at the gala affair. June 25th at Log Haven at 7:00 p.m. President Jim Russell will receive the gavel during in-stallation ceremonies. The Jaycees welcome their new president who has been in Denver undergoing an operation and will meet with them for the first time since his election. KIWANIS CLUB OF SUGAR HOUSE The Kiwanis Club of Sugar House held its regular meeting Tuesday, June 21, at 12:00 noon at Harman's Cafe, 1270 East 21st South. Speaker was Douglas R. Mabey who spoke on Kennecott Copper Corporation in Utah. Com-mittee was Burt Keddington and invocation was given by Don Smith. Mr. Douglas R. This . reorganization has been proposed by Study Committees of the Utah Legislative Council. Speaker of the House Sheldon R. Brewster (D. Salt Lake ), vice chairman of the Utah Legislative Council, in his address, outlined reports of ten subcommittees of the State Service and Finance Com-mittees of the Council. Under the proposed change the Liquor Commission would consist of seven persons. These people would set policy for state liquor sales and would represent specific areas of the state. As it is at the present time there are three members appointed outside the districts in which they reside. At their June 8th meeting the Legislation Committee of the Sugar House BPW informed the club members that these seven people would comprise one medical doctor, one lawyer, one educator, 'one woman (registered nurse), and three people recommended by the governor. Officers and chairman of the Sugar House Business and Pro-fessional Women's Clubwill meet at the home of Mrs.4 HA: Elton, 2689 East 3160 South, on July 6th. Club president Mrs. J. C. Nation will preside. Dr. EIRoy Nelson, vice president and economist of First Security Corp., and Dr. Osmond L.Harline, director of the University of Utah Bureau of Economic and Business . Research. Teacher Award Carolyn Gundry of Salt Lake City, teaching at Granger High School, is one of 35 persons who have been awarded scholarships to participate in a special work-shop to study Utah industry. The workshop, currently being conducted by the University of Utah, is an intensive course in-tended to give social science teachers in Utah public schools a first-han- d knowledge of the state's major resources and industries. During the three-wee- k course, seminar participants will travel to Utah's major economic regions, visiting such plants as smelters, steel mills, oil fields, coal and gilsonite mines, cement plants and petroleum refineries. The scholarships have been made available by the Natural Resources Committee of the Utah 'Associated Chambers of Com-jmerc- e. The class is being sponsored by the University of Utah Extension Division. Instructors for the course are "I hear your boy friend is dumb," said the senior. . "I'll say he is," replied the junior. "When he got his letter in football, I had to read it to him.' Little things count, and three of them give you an $1800 tax exemption. |
