Show Stock Drivers Continue Pace By Bill Notestine Two more faces showed up Saturday night as possible chal-engers chal-engers for Mel Andrus lead in' the race for this year's championship. champ-ionship. They are Fred Sorensen, who was on Andrus' tail all through the main event, and lost by only had the fastest qualifying time for the lap, won the trophy dash, and came in third in the main event. There also were changes in the point standings as Mark Drazich ran into a lot of trouble in the "A" main. He had three wrecks in the 50-lap race. Drazich dropped to fourth place, 74 points, while Sorensen jumped to second, 84, and Pappy Gates to third place, 75. Andrus still was the lead with 132 points. In the semi -main, Norm Dreck-sel Dreck-sel took first, and Neal Norman came in second. Other drivers and their points are Alma Facer with 72; Dick Card with 72; Don Winters ,28; and Bob Taylor, 27. There was a flurry of extra excitement in the A-main when Bob Tate's car caught fire. Also, Orson Lee in car 40 was coming out of the west turn when he flipped and rolled over half way down the straight -sway in front of the crowd and emerged unhurt. COMING EVENTS This Saturday night, June 20, is the Intermountain Stock Car Invitational, Cars from an over the mountain West are going to be there, and it should prove exciting excit-ing as well as interesting, to see how Salt Lake drivers and cars do against some of the best drivers from other states. |
