Show Let's not Panic Over Fear of Russia The U2 incident and the resulting furjr should no: be used as a political football. Whether the flights were justified and whether the manner in which they have be n subsequently handled is correct or not cannot dare become a major issue. . Facts in the matter are that the flights over Russia were being made as a protective measure for this country. We got caught. There appeared to be a moment of confusion when we were first caught and the publicity could have been handled better. Russia created the tension in which this world is living today. Apprehension as to what Russia might do is causing some of our Congressmen and political leaders to blame each other and place the blame, if there is any, on the opposite political party. But what blame is there? If there is a fault to be fou id it is in the way that we have handled Russia and her attempt to serve the world. Onlv a fear of Russia could cause a criticism of our relationship with her. Granted we all fear that Russia's thirst for power may cause a war. Does this mean we have to be fearful of Russia to such an extent that we criticize each other for doing something Mr. K. doesn't approve of? If we continue to act like a bunch of kids caught stealing watermelons water-melons and .point at each other and yell "He did it," that is exactly what we will appear to be -- a bunch of kids. Let's keep arguing among ourselves regarding taxes and other at home problems but to the world let's hive a uiited and dignified appearance to all. |
