Show Utah Natl. Guard Physical Training Forty-three officers and enlisted en-listed men of the Utah Army National Guard are concentrating on their physique so they'll be in shape for a rugged 15 -day camp at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Car-olina. Major General Maxwell E. Rich, Utah Adjutant General, says the 43 will leave Salt Lake City July 4th to undergo a thorough orientation at the Army Special Forces School. Lt. Col. Morgan G. Higham, Utah National Guard, will be in charge. When they return, they will be assigned to the 32 special forces detachments being organized organ-ized in Ogden, Bountiful, Salt Lake City, Murray and American Fork, later this summer. Special forces personnel go through essentially the same basic training as all Army troops, but advanced training is tougher. They must be trained in guerilla tactics, demolitions, communications, and - languages of the area in which they will operate. Parachute training, train-ing, which will probably be their most rugged activity, will get under way in the summer of 1960. Physical fitness tests are scheduled for November, 1959, as a requirement for remaining in these units. The tests include a number of physical tests which must be accomplished within one hour. Personnel will require 60 days minimum time to develop the physical stamina to complete the test successfully. |
