Show Page 12 Sugar House, Utah Thursday, February 27, 1958 ' INDEPENDENT Life With Lyjuu Hi There! Hi There! February is a month of holi-days. Lincoln's Birthday, Wash-ington's Birthday, Boy Scout Week, and of course Valentine (sigh). . We attended a delightful par-ty one evening when West and Granite were playing a game. Every few minutes someone from West or Granite would run to the telephone and call up a. radio station to find out the score. The "Farmers" wept that night and the "Panters" really went to town. There were a lot of proud "Titans" too, be-cause they beat Tooele in the game they played at Olympus. Sondra Sandberg, one of the girls who was there had a real cute jacket that you could write autographs on. All the kids had fun practicing up on there Ger-man, English or, ''what have you", on the back of her jacket. A get acquainted game was "Hi Neighbor". About 11:00 pjn., Mary Lee Brady, our darling red-head- ed hostess, served the delicious re-freshments. The Valentine guests who were there were: Lynda Peterson, Howard Stevenson, David Brinton, Rae Nichol, Mary Lynn Whittaker, Russ Davey, Jack Longhurst, Donna Smart, Ron Thompson, Sondra Sand-berg, Rod Linton, Karen Sin-clair, Malcolm McClure, Boyd Evans and Annette Rockwellend and we must forget Mary Lee and our cute chaperone, Mrs. Elbert O. Thompson. About 20 minutes to twelve she casually said, "I guess you all better go home now", so we all got up and left. Girls in short dresses, pantal-oons, big hair ribbons, lollipops, stuffed animals, pinafores, pig-tails andv long socks. Boys in short pants, bow ties, touched up with freckles and front teeth out. That's what greeted every-one kindergarten kid at the Granite High Jr. Class Party. Every one surely lived up to the part as kindergarten kids. The first game everyone played was I guess you'd have to call it "Musical Part-ners", the girls would skip around one way in a circle and the boys the opposite way, when the music stopped everyone tried to find his partner. There were boys who slid across the floor like they were sliding into home base, and the girls grabbed their partner and pulled them down on the floor. Another game that was played was everyone and I mean every-one, took off both of their shoes and put them in the middle of the floor. I "betcha" there were at least 1000 pairs of shoes in the middle of the floor, or at least it looked that way. Every-one was divided up into teams and they had to run and find their shoes and put them on and then run back. Ye know, even the kids in kindergarten didn't have as much fun as we did that night. Bye now, Lynne College Group Presents Musicals At State Hospital Recently elected officers of the Westminster College Hi-Neigh-group, known as WHING'S, which has been presenting specially-des-igned programs every other Sunday evening for the State Hospital at Provo, assumed their duties the past week. They are Steve Donoviei of Ogden. majoring in phychology, pres-ident; Evelyn Fletcher, Salt Lake City, secretary-treasure- r; Marilyn Brazelton, Denver, program chairman, and Dave Strouther, Salt Lake City, pub-licity chairman. Mrs. Carroll P. Hurd, direct6rof the Student Health Service and College nurse, Is the advisor. Since its organization at the beginning of the first semester in September, this volunteer group taking recreational pro-grams directly to the patients in their respective .wards, has met with some 1,300 patients. Three wards are covered each trip. The programs presented are varied, consisting of drama skits, music, dancing, etc., some of which includes par- - ticipation by the patients. A highlight of the series this year was a recent talent show pre-sented in the hospital audi-torium. Support to this volunteer student organization of 25 to 30 members, which has won high praise for its activities with the mentally ill from hospital offi-cials and patients, is being given by the Salt Lake chapter of the Utah Association .for Mental Health, of which Mrs. Ruth Ann Purhonen is the head. Assisting in education of group members also have been personnel of Fort Douglas V.A. Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Ueah. Last week, Chester Dowse,, head of Special Services at the: Veterans Hospital appeared, before the group and discussed, the value of recreational pro-grams in mental hospitals. He' commended the Westminster volunteer group highly and' called attention to the respon-sibility of the members aa ''junior-citizens- " of the community which is in need of education concerning mental illness." Th program of this service . group will be continued thru the second semester.. I ge smmGO Hi OUT fOR $$$ Dflys I KOBODY.
