Show mckune saw mill has been in same family for 25 years established by robert nobert and J D mckune jn in 1913 the mckune milling and lumber company located J about sixt sixteen miles from altonah alzonah was founded in 1913 by robert mckune and J D mckune the latter of whom moved his family to the uintah basin in the fall of 1913 where they lived in tents until a house could be built that same winter the mckugo brothers built a bridge across tile the yellowstone river six miles northwest of alto nah at the point which is now known as Too roose ford in the spring of 1914 J D mckune built the road nine miles north of the bridge on the face of tile the lake fork mountain after which the saw mill equipment was shipped from the salem iron works it was shipped by train to price and there loaded on freig freight ht wagons coming overland to tile the uintah basin J D mckune was the manager of tile the mill from 1914 to 1917 at which time it was moved from lake fork mountain to the mckune draw nine miles north of altonah alzonah Al tonah in 1928 the mill was moved back to the lake fork mountain on the forest lake fork mountain road and is located thirteen miles northwest of al tonah and three quarters of a mile north of a landmark on th the e yellowstone river from which can be seen the entire basin it is one of the most scenic places in in this section and one that is little explored J D mckune operated the mill until he died in the spring of 1937 after which it was turned over to rodney mckune who is the present owner and L M mckune who now manages it T thus hus the plant has been in the same family for over twenty five years tile plant is now run by diesel power and is located locate d near a spring which provides water |
