Show work on farm creek winter sports area starts this thi s week extent of development of project depends upon i interest shown by local people according to A L taylor supervisor of ashley national forest work on the construction of a winter sports playground on farm creek mountain will begin thi this weekend week end and ski and toboggan slides will be cleared of brush and rocks supervisor taylor advises that although it is a little late and the winter too mild for participation in uch such sports this season more exten extensive improvements may be made next year if the interest shown justifies such development forest ranger walkup and members of tile the commercial club sports committee who made a survey of the area believe it has great poss possibilities abilities and can be developed into one of the finest winter recreation areas in the state stat e even in dry years adequate snow for skiing alei sleigh ii and toboggan 9 an riding falls on the slopes of farm creek mountain in addition there are arc excellent slopes for the slides if people in surrounding communities muni ties continue to show interest in the development of the project forest ranger walkup believes that more extensive work will be done dona there including building shelters and fireplaces for winter picnics improving the road loading leading in to the mountains etc tile the construction of such a project would add greatly to the recreation facilities in the basin and if the growing popularity of winter sports continues the area will be of great use and value to the people of this section |
