Show newest step in uintah basin water conservation program nears completion crowds attend dam dedication ceremonies and celebration eb ration held last friday huge lake and dam bedl bated to enrollee olleo who lost his life during its ita construction the dedication ceremonies and the allday all day celebration held held at and bridgeland last friday marked an important development in the conservation of the uintah basins water supply the completion of the dam dike and canal system which have been under construction during durine the past three years by enrollees of the bridgeland camp an estimated crowd of 1500 attended the dedicatory ceremonies and program held on a knoll overlooking the dam last friday morning at 10 a m horace L allred president of the moon lake water users association under whose sponsorship the project was constructed ted presided and introduced captain floyd W goates of the bridgeland camp who was master of ceremonies the bugle call sounded and the american flag was raised above the dam to the inspiring strains of A flag without a stain which was sung by jessie bird goates wife of the captain the invocation and prayer dedicating the project to charles boreham a enrollee who was killed february 12 1935 while working on a steam shovel at the dam was offered by bishop clayborn of the bridgeland ward after which the audience sang the star Span spangled aled banner praises work captain goates then introduced congressman abe murdock the principal speaker of the program who praised the work done by the boys and said he hoped to see several more projects like this one completed in the basin in the near future congressman murdock said he has made it his future work to see that not one drop of water leaves the state ot of utah that can be conserved and put to use in utah captain jerry I lines hines of fort douglas was the second speaker substituting for brigadier general W C sweeney district commander who was scheduled to be present but could not make it on account of pressing business he told of the ardys relation to the and how the army was willing at all times to cooperate with the civilian conservation corps corp project engineers superintendents ten etc were in introduced and all given credit for the part they had played in the construction of the dam lake Bor boreham ehara mrs charles boreham and young son gon born after his fathers death who celebrated his first birthday on the day the project was dedicated had been located in salt lake city and brought to bridgeland by the camp for the dedication mrs boreham was introduced to the audience after which a monument on a hilltop above the dam bearing an inscription dedicating the project to charles Bore boreham harn and naming the reservoir lake boreham in his memory was unveiled by boys musical 71 umbers numbers were presented by miss wanda jensen of roosevelt and the du chesne quartet and floyd goates son of the captain noon banquet at 12 noon an elaborate banquet was held in the camps mess hall for camp and construction officials board members of the moon lake water users association visitors guests etc horace allred told of the beginning of the project how old mr miller had discovered what an ideal place for a reservoir this site was and how he went to the dry gulch irrigation company who immediately became interested in it ray E dillman discussed the moon lake project and various other water conservation measures in the uintah basin colonel webb and other visitors were called up to make remarks and honoring the little boreham boys first birthday mrs goates sang san danny boy afternoon Atter noon entertainment following the lunch the allstar officials of the moon lak water users association defeated the camp executives in a baseball game with a score of F r to 4 various contests novelty races and games for people of all ages g es were played in the afternoon a and nd beautiful prizes awarded to wim winners aers in the early evening some wrest |
