| Show P property property values in east ar duchesne duchesne county jum jump with the th completion of water project rc construction of montez creek canal authorized will carry I 1 water over acres c A reservoir capable of delivering twee its storage capacity during airing each irrigation season arid and which will supplement the water supply su aply of f underlying farm lands to such an extent that crop values wig mil be more than doubled in eastern duchesne county and western uintah county was completed a few weeks ago at montez creek sevea seven miles northeast of Do roosevelt sevelt just over the county line be in uintah county the project w was as a development sponsored by the county it was originally started by members of the dry gulch irrigation company three years ago ind and the concrete outlet construction was completed by private vate capital when the depression tightened and the dry gulch company found it impossible to continue construction of the reservoir the property was deeded to the county and funds were secured thus thu a crew of nearly men have been at work on the project for three years the reservoir has a 1300 acre foot capacity but actually will furnish 2600 acre feet of storage water by reason of its unusual double duty feature the reservoir will be filled once in the early spring by runoff run off waters of the uintah river that formerly could not be utilized and went to waste and then again b by y the high waters of the river after june 1 which will be used to irrigate maturing crops in the rich section in this area foot dam the water in the reservoir is is impounded behind a six hundred foot dam which has an approximate height of 30 feet and 1600 feet of earthen embankment ranging from 9 to 16 feet in height the face of the dam and the embankment embank nent have been beautifully rip ripped rapped the cost of the i reservoir eser voir is estimated at about and is expected to greaty 13 increase the property values in in this vicinity As a safe safety ty measure a 14 foot spillway has been constructed in case of a sudden cloudburst which would divert the water into the creek bed although there is an early dry spring usually in this section farmers have been unable to take addan tage of it because oi of water shortage and since the drouth about one fifth of the farmers in this section have lost their properties due to lack of water and the fact that only grain and hay could be successfully raised with adequate water the growing of such crops crop s as potatoes beets onions peas beans and similar crops will be made possible recreation resources fishing and hunting will be provided divided as a result of the project with an assured depth of four feet of water which cannot be drained out trout will be planted i in the reservoir and wild fowl are already being attracted to this area reservoir Reber voIr filled since the completion of the reservoir a few weeks ago water has been flowing into it at a rate between 40 and 50 second feet and at the present time the daml dam I 1 is almost filled to capacity and stretches nearly three quarters of a mile in length and half a mile in width in some places canal authorized at a meeting of the stockholders of the uintah side of the Dryl gulch irrigation company held last week in ballard the construction of a canal to carry water from the reservoir to the state road canal one hal mile north of roosevelt was authorized thus Thu I 1 water from this valuable project I 1 I 1 will irrigate approximately acres of land just north of the city of roosevelt 1 |
