Show CATTLE PURCHASE restricted BY instructions ISSUED FROM EXTENSION SERVICE DEPT DIRECTOR PETERSON CALLS FOR restrictions IN CATTLE PURCHASE PLANS throughout UTAH DROUTH DISTRICT professor wm win peterson director of the extension division of the utah agricultural college under whose supervision the government cattle purchasing in drouth stricken areas has been directed has publicly announced a chan change e of policy and asks that all cattle emergency drouth directors instruct their workers of the change the change does not mean that the purchase of cattle in the drouth stricken areas has been stopped but it does mean that the program will not permit the purchase of cattle from the he individual farmer who has sul suf 11 clent feed to carry ills his animals through the winter it further means that purchases must not be made from farms offering ott ering feed tor for sale up to the present time the I 1 government has been very lenient with the farmers and cattlemen allowing them to cull their herds on all farms but from this date on all cattle purchases must be in accordance with the pro gram director peterson says their has been no time limit set and advises farmers who must dispose of cattle to make disposition immediately before other restrictions strict tons ions 0 or changes are made the telegram as sent to managing director of this district W K dye is as follows in all cases priority in the purchase of animals shall be riv iven to the areas which are in the most distressed conditions as a result ol of the drouth purchases shall be made only from those producers who have fully den de n to the satisfaction of the county agricultural drouth committees that their feed supplies are not sufficient to maintain their animals and that such inability is due entirely to drouth conditions purchases from individual producers sall not be in fit excess of the number which it Is necessary to remove in order to make mahe reasonably certain that the cattle remaining on the farm or ranch can be maintained |
