Show new land placed under ashley national forest supervision A proclamation by the president has been issued adding to the ashley forest approximately acres of forest land of the public domani do maii and acres of privately priva bely owned timber land in the little hole and davenport regions adjoining the forest this section will bring under organized fire protection through the administration of th 3 national Nati oual orial forest service the remaining timber of the public land on the eastern end 0 of the uintah aiu aita range in uintah and daggett counties the addition involves the transfer tr anifer of the public land in question from the depart of the interior to the department of agriculture re and is the result of untiring effort on the part of cong colton and senator smoot in response to aDe from various 0 organizations and interested iu ira both counties i 1 that these said gaid forest lands be given national forest status the privately owned lands are affected by tho the addition except as to cooperative benefits to be received in ire fire control commenting ou ora the addition supervisor A G nord states that the area involved contains valuable stands of promising young timber made up of three commeret al U species wes westenra teira yellow pine douglas fir and lodgepole pine while it contains about 15 mill mallion full tet feet of 0 mature timber over the greater part of the area the stands are immature the administration of the kaew ew area la Is largely a tiro fire protection problem as there is little timber er use at present time and the grazing values are very low since most of the tha area within the bowa darles 0 the addition which was attractive tor for grazing has been acquired into private ownership I 1 mr air nord states that the first step to be taken by the forest service will be to develop a fire protection plau PIX 1 for both the public and private timber land involved the area in little hole daggett county will be added to the manila ranger district and that lu uintah county will be administered by the ran ranger er of the vernal dietr district let no additional personnel will be required for the ot of the new area except as may be necessary for tire fire emergencies of 0 tor for road and trall trail development needed to facilitate efforts in tore fore cou cora arol |
