Show seek to reduce cost of honey losses and gains shown to be closely related to colony yields prepared by the united states state of beekeeping practices and mana management ge ent as a well as the marketing of honey have been studied during the past year by the bureau of entomology and agricultural economics of the united states department of agriculture with a view to formula formulating ting methods that will help tile the b beekeeper ee keeper produce honey at a profit A preliminary report of the survey of apiary practices in the inter moun lain region utah colorado montana wyoming and idaho covering the data secured in 1923 will soon be ready for distribution A study will be started this year in the clover honey producing region and both studies will be continued until sufficient data have hare been obtained to warrant advice being given or oc practices and management ana gement in beekeeping aswell as aj well eil as regarding honey bous housa and equipment that have been found to be efficient and profitable Bee beekeepers keepers kp keep rord records beekeepers Bee keepers operating cooperating co with the department in these surveys keep dally daily records of labor and expenses make invoices and report on the management practiced under a variety of conditions this information will be of interest to all beekeepers bee keepers sire to compare their management practices with those of other bee keepers forty apiaries were included lu in the 1928 survey ranging in ID size from to 1800 colonies and covering a total of bore more than colonies the results of this survey according to E L sechrist of the bureau of entomology tom and R E kifer of the bureau of agricultural economics show that the great variance in labor and investment costs as well as the yield per colony have ft a marked influence on the beekeepers bee keepers profits operation cooperation co necessary such investigations cannot be carried out successfully without the active operation cooperation co of the various state agricultural extension agencies the th bee bee keepers organizations and particularly the beekeepers bee beelee keepers pers therit selves all these have done excellent work la in the past and help given by them in pers onel contact has been of great value thi the bureaus bureau say bay the work undertaken in the clover clever region this fall will depend to a considerable sid ald erable degree on the assistance and operation cooperation co of local beekeeping specialists cia lists ts and beekeeping organizations any organization able to assist in these surveys la Is invited to communicate with the division of bee culture investigations bureau of entomology united states department of agriculture washington |
