Show EARLY MORNING FIRE DESTROYS HAY AND SEED early tuesday morning fire destroyed the seed crop and nay hay of lynn orser at his farm 2 miles south of ft roosevelt the fire ire was first discovered by bruce calder who saw the flames from his residence in town mr air calder immediately called on the telephone but was unable to arouse the operator for considerable time finally central operator sot got an answer over the line and a number were called to go to the assistance of mr air orser however it was not until about that the fire alarm was sounded after which some two hundred men responded with buckets et 3 and formed a bucket briga brigade from the ditch to the stacks in this way a large part of the hay bay was saved which was later hauled out into the field owing to uw uie recent rains tins i threshing of mr air borers seed geed crop had been intermitted the machine having been set and run for a few hours monday afternoon when the tire fire was raa the be birdsell separator was completely burned and the tire fire was burning from all sides of it making it apparent that the fire i originated either in tle c close to it some twenty bags of seed were standing close to the machine these were damaged and were re sacked mr arsers loss is estimated at 35 bags of seed and from 20 to 25 tons of hay bay the machine was tile the property of the dry gulch huller association and has been used f only by the members the tractor was cranked and driven away from the tire fire and so was saved ir f loss will probably amount to with no insurance the tact fact that the night was quiet and t liere being no wind made the fighting of the tire fire much easler easier had there been a customary west wind it Is doubtful if the home could have been saved |
