Show examination IS URGED BY SCHOOL BOARD OF COUNTY the united states commissioner of education and state S superintendent jensen of utah calls our attention to the importance of doing everything our power to see that children who enter school tor for the first time this year shall begin their work so eo far as possible without physical handicaps the movement was initiated quite generally throughout the country a few years ago some seventy thousand children who were to enter school for their first time were examined last year many of the I 1 districts of utah have achieved commendable success in aiding the children to begin their school work without being by physical handicaps it so happens that the duchesne school district cannot give material help by providing i a doctor and nurse for financial reasons that would aid in this very important work the board of education however is very much in favor of health work and recognizes that u strong vigorous body is one of 0 the prime essentials to a successful life it recognizes that many 0 of tho the children are arc retarded in thel their r work because of bad teeth infected ton sils poor eyesight eye cye sight and an undernourished n ouri shed body it respectfully requests and urges all parents who have children who are beginning school tor for their first time this tall fall to make an extra effort to have their childrens physical defects removed it Is an investment that will give rich returns to the child as well as the parents 1 the ear throat teeth noso nose and leyes eyes are the chief trouble makers mal ceis 0 of course we have a surprisingly large number of children who are under nourished even though they seem to have all the food they want it the amount of food that counts but rather it is kinds of food that will serve the needs of the particular child that should be considered many of the children in the schools of this district are under nourished they have enough to eat but not of the proper kinds to keep their young tender bodies growing we feel that merely a word to the parents reminding them of their duty in this impel important tant phase of child raising ngi will result in a service which will bo be almost priceless to the children and to tho the soh schools |
