Show work progressing at fox and crescent lakes is report the dry gulch irrigation company Is 18 now working on oil two iwo lakes located on the east fork of the uinta river fox and crescent lakes crescent lake has been drained to a depth of 5 feet the drain having a solid masonry dam built across it the dam Is 9 feet high and 3 feet wide on top 7 feet wide on the bottom and is 55 feet long on the top and will be fitted with a steel gate this dam la Is built on solid bedrock solid substance may be used in the construction of a dam it if the bedrock bed rock is solid it if bed solid the dam should be constructed of material that is plastic enough to settle with the foundation the fox lake has no solid foundation consequently a floating or indian type of dam is being constructed ted A trench 5 feet deep is being excavated across the dam site from end to end into which a roll of sheet piling will be driven the trench will be back filled with clay and a core wall of clay will be carried from the trench to the top of 0 the dam the front slope p of the dam Is 31 3 1 the back slope varies from 21 2 0 I 1 to 31 3 1 the material on eith either er side of the core wall will bs be rather porous san sand d which wil b be e compacted by clamping and rolling the outlet tunnel is 75 feet long and will consist of 36 inch corrugated no 10 gauge pipe fitted with a steel gate from the bottom of the outlet tunnel to the top of the dam Is 16 feet the dam is feet long and 8 feet wide on the top it Is 75 feet wide in the widest place on the bottom I 1 the capacity of these two reser doirs is approximately 1000 aar acre feet the dry gulch company has already developed a storage capacity on the uinta river in the atwood and chain lakes of 2000 acre feet so that the storage developed this year will add 50 per cent to I 1 that t which was already available I 1 this is year the total storage of acre feet thus developed will be adequate to give one irrigation to practically 40 per cent of the druy gulch lands on the uinta side there are possibilities at lake atwood of an additional storage of 1800 feet which can be developed by the building of a dam with an effective storage this dam need be only 10 feet in heig height glit and approximately feet ion long on top it is the present plan to investigate the foundation of site during this season in order that a design of the dam may receive the approval of the state engineer before next spring when lake atwood is developed next year together with one or two other small lakes which can be de at a reasonable cost the dry I 1 gulch irrigation company will have kofl approximately acre feet of stored water which will irrigate 10 acres once this in addition to the high water a and flood water will be ample for an entire season this entire storage will not cost in excess of approximately of which will have been expended by the end of this season by the stockholders without bonding or borrowing except for temporary periods between assessments the cost per acre toot foot Is approximately 10 since 1 1 I acre foot will irrigate 2 acres the cost per acre idies docs not exceed 5 in all probability the additional crops raised with water will pay tor for the storage |
