Show I 1 BASIN RAILROAD HEARING IN SALT LAKE JULY the following applications tor for the construction of a railroad into the uintah basin section aie assigned for hearing before the interstate commerce commission july 27 1925 ahe the hearing will be conducted in salt lake city finance docket no in ili the matter of the application of 0 the salt lake and denver railroad company for a certificate 0 of public convenience and necessity to construct a line of railroad in ili utah and colorado finance docket no in the matter of the application 0 of the denver and rio grande western railroad company for a certificate of public convenience and necessity to construct a una line of railroad in the state of utah the first applicants have a survey into the basin running from springville Spring ville to the colorado state line this survey follows the strawberry river to duchesne passes through myton and randlett and then runs up white river through the rich oil shale district of southern uintah county to the state line connecting up with the survey of the denver and salt lake railway the moffat line thus putting us on a transcontinental line connecting coast to coast the denver and rio grande western railway has a survey into the uintah basin running from soldier summit to vernal via duchesne sly aly ton and fort duchesne vernal to be the terminal dark horse entered it is also stated in some quarters that the burlington railway is in the field for a permit to enter the uintah basin apparently sentiment in Duclie duchesne sno and uintah counties and in the colorado portions of the basin has not crystallized into exclusive support of any one of the applicants for permits but it is sate safe to say that eventually the sentiment of the people of the entire basin will unite in support of any railway company giving tangible evidence of its determination to construct a through line into the basin in the shortest possible time after being granted a permit As the bulk of the uintah basin shipping livestock and agricultural products is destined to points east it is the sense of a very considerable portion of the people of the basin that a through line will best serve the interests of the domain this feature applies to the bamberger survey judging from sentiments expressed in recent colorado basin weeklies it seems that they too learl lean toward the bamberger railway |
