Show railroad to basin Is sure thing says official WHEN OR BY WHOM TO BE BUILT IS DIFFERENT IS STATEMENT BACK BACHL FROM SURVEY OVER BISIN BASIN the uintah basin is a wonderful country capable of remarkable development SOME DAY a railroad will be built into that country but when or by whom I 1 am not prepared to say said alvin C krech chairman of 0 the executive board of 0 the D K R G W and the western pacific who arrived in salt lake tuesday night after a two day inspection trip through the basin he was accompanied by E N brown chairman of 0 the board of directors of the frisco lines finley J shepard vice president of tho the Alls missouri pacific and J S pyeatt president ot of the D it n G W the party entered the basin by way of mack alack colo from which point they traveled by automobile to helper where they boarded a special in discussing the matter wednesday mr krech said the fact that the D R G W has filed an application for a certificate ot of conven convenience feEce and intention with the interstate commerce commiss commission iono shows that we are seriously considering si the matter however there are many things yet to be done before we woud undertake any actual construction one of 0 the principal objects ot of my trip through the basin was to gather information from what information we have so tar far been able to get there are perhaps to acres of good farming farm ing land which with a railroad would increase say 20 an acre in value let us say that the increase in the valuation of 0 the farm land alone would be but it must be kemem remembered ered that there is quite a difference in increasing land values and in building a railroad which would cost and which would likely not pay tor for a good many years the total products of the basin today during a period of a year could be hauled out in one or two what about the rest of the year these are things to be considered our board of directors authorized the filing of the application but it has not authorized the building of a branch line the route to follow into the basin would be a very expensive one owing to the heavy grades we are seeking all the information we can get chance for pay rail railroad road companies are not building expensive lines these days unless they can see a chance for at least interest on the investment within a reasonable time mr air krech and party paid pal a a visit to the eastern end of the moffat tunnel before coining to the basin lie ile said that at the present rate at which work on the tunnel was being pushed it would be completed by the end of 1926 with wita the exception of mr air pyeatt the special party left for the west over the western pacific at 1130 a m to the special train was attached at salt lake the private car of charles al levey president and E IVI mason alason vice president and general manager of the western pacific deseret news june 10 |
