Show president of D R G assert uintah basin holds big promise J samuel pyeatt president ot of the denver rio grande western railroad returned to denver sunday atter an inspection of 0 the uintah basin of utah into which the rio grande western proposes to build a mile extension from soldier summit utah mr pyeatt bald said he be was much impressed with the country particularly with its agricultural possibilities although there are to acres 0 of land under cultivation in the basin mr pyeatt said there wao waa opportunity to develop a great deal more there Is plenty of 0 water in the basin from the duchesne strawberry and other rivers but the chier chief obstacle at present Is getting the water on the land he said A reclamation project built by the government would seem to be the easiest and quickest way ot of putting water on the land and getting I 1 ir if under cultivation mr pyeatt said gald it probably would be six months before the interstate i commerce commission held a hear i ing on the application of the rio grande western tor for permission to build the proposed mile extension to its lines from soldier summit utah the application wash waa died last week and it Is estimated the project will cost the railroad in the neighborhood of 5 million dollars mr pyeatt also inspected the rio grande western lines in colorado and utah during the trip from which he returned sunday the denver post |
