Show TUB THE chautauqua it was a rattling good program and an audience the chautauqua is a thing of the past and the critics say it was en tortal torta nine ining educational and int interesting erest miss belle lent was the manager and has beep with us for the past t ten en days she made many friends while here with her pleasing manner and winning ways the chautauqua proved to be a financial success as well as in an educational way on the first night tuesday julius caesar gave his lecture entitled the oriental pageant this was entirely different from any lecture we ever heard ho he was dressed in the costume of the near cast and carrad thousands of dollars worth of beautiful tapestries and gowns he delivered a very clever and interesting lecture on the customs manners I 1 and life ot of palestine and neighboring countries on wednesday evening sergeant arthur gibbous gibbons gave us the lecture entitled A guest of the kaiser Ser sergeant gealt gibbons was tor for seven m months a german prisoner and he had some very thrilling experiences he told us some of the treatment they received from the hun doctors in the hos hospitals how they tortured the wounded all under the name of the ot of culture Kul ture his lecture was based from actual experience peri ence and it will certainly be a long time before we can actually love the germans thursday evening the sterns gregg concert company gave us u a an evening of delightful music and entertainment it was waa undoubtedly the best entertainment that the people of roosevelt have witnessed tor for many a day miss vere vera sterns was the violinist violinist miss ethel sterns cellist and miss lorna gregg pianist they played some very difficult music and held their hearers spellbound spell bound all during the evening what appealed to us most was the solo rendered by miss sterns on the cello and a 11 d as an a n encore she played those sweet and melodious odious tones penetrated the very soul of the entire audience they are undoubtedly musical artists and play together as one person miss fay epperson whistler and reader has unusual talent as an entertainer her portion of the program brought one pleasant surprise after another mr air J C herbsman came to us friday evening and lectured on americas need ile he is a very forceful speaker and impresses one as being one hundred per cent american he gave us all a lot of 0 food tor for thought and touched on most all the topics of the day he told us why the high cost ot of living the league of 0 nations and then wound up by talking to the boys and girls and parents the high school students that were not present certainly missed a rare treat the laoris maoris were with us on saturday night this was very educational the laoris maoris are from the north island of new zealand and very little has ever been heard beard of the customs and traditions of these people they gave us folk foik dances canoe dance marriage ceremony baptism all ot of which was very educational cat ional their songs are soft aud caressing and it was an evening well worth the price we are glad to say that next year we are going to have another chautauqua this one cost but we would like to see at least a course here next season people are clarn mering tor for better things a and nd that Is the only way we can get them |
