Show OIL LAND IX IN UTAH the largeant large and increasing use and need of petroleum in the industries of the world has stimulated a search for new oil fields and tile the united states geological survey department of the interior Is as assisting in this search geologist frank K R dark clark of the survey recently made an all examination in fit carbon county utah to discover whether the conditions underground are favorable to tile the accumulation of oil or gas although considerable drilling has been done in the state no oil has been produced there in commercial quantities but sandstone band stone saturated with asphalt and other hydrocarbon coal compounds and oil seeps and small sh showings 0 of oil in wells at several places place suggest that oil may bo be found in commercial nier cial quantities where the structure and the rocks are favorable for oil accumulation in what Is called the furnham farnham anticline in carbon county a small arch in the rock beds near the southern limit of tile the uinta basin only the structure appears to be favorable tor for the storage ct cf oil the nearest exposures or rocks that might carry oil are in tile the sap san rafat rafai I swell CO 50 miles south of carlion county the strata most likely to be oil hearing bearing it tile the rocks in III the Cat carbon lor county area contain oil may probably be reach reached ed by drilling to a depth of to feet in the farnham anticline it will be wildcat drilling tor for it is not known whether the unexposed rocks ca carry rry oil and there are no surface indications of oil |
