opportunities 7 at the worlds material output loosened from their ancient moorings they are but a multitude without adequate vision and leadership in this country we hear distant murmur murmurings ings of a storm labor is aake and is becoming conscious As I 1 keepers keepers of the trust of those who gave ave birth to our institutions we inest knust rise to the emergency mer gency we must inake make such laws and such regulations Ls as will relieve our industrial inequality quality wo we must see to it that the life ot of the common people Is not dissipated at ifie the workshop nor wasted in the dungeons of our sweated industries we must preserve the life of 0 our children and relieve them from the ills of oc child labor the social evil moreover is a problem that needs tife the earnest consideration of our citizenship As in ancient rome it is gri gnawing awing at the very atals of our body politic the decreased birth rate in the original american stock sounds a warning to those who look askance at this im imy issue no nation can survive and hold its place of eminence forever if in her midst there is suicide ill III tares fares the land to hastening ills a prey pey where wealth problems which confront those who come out of our institutions of 0 learning it ts is to them that that society looks tor for their solution the graduate must be a factor for progress and improvement in whatever community he may chance to cast his lot he should be willing to sacrifice his own personal welfare tor for the good of his fellows in every movement for the improvement of society he should lead the way we realize fellow citizens that these expectations may not be in our strength to meet but the very nature of the duties require that we should succeed the world we know is s full of trials and tribulations it is the field in which the weak are pushed to the wall we realize more moreover tyer that tonight we have merely arrived atone at one of the mile stones of education the greater view of life yet lies beyond our vision but we shall not tail fail we will move onward and in that resolution we hope to fulfill the expectations of those clio gave us this opportunity for securing this much the prize of success is hung out in the open and with the deter determination minati on characteristic of 0 youth we have nothing to fear we will be confident and believing believing bel leving in the final triumph of right and in the goodness of 0 our tel fel along with this enthusiasm and idealism there are among us those who are already weeping for more worlds to conquer it is true that duri during ng the high school years boys and girls normally turn their attention away from self and center it on larger interests Interest ss they join a group they become social beings they have great imaginations the idea of risk and adventure appeals to them and some are ready to give themselves to fo a noble cause it was at this age that conj one girl thought she
