Show PEACE LEAGUE CLUB CI aub declaring that the united states must give up some degree ot of her nal national sovereignty it if the world Is to have an enduring peace dr george emory emoiy fellows went on record recoil last iasi friday in a student assembly ot of the university ot of utah as an advocate of the adoption ot of an international peace constitution the meeting was held under the auspices ot of the varsity club for the promotion of the league ot of nations that was organized last week by a group ot of upper class men that this la Is a critical moment in afie the 4 affairs 1 of human liy and the psychological achl ch time for the formation of a peace league was pointed out by dr fellows it if we lose the present opportunity port unity he said we may never have another in many decades he declared himself in favor of every honest means of creating a public sentiment favorable to the adoption of an international peace league luther E eggertsen president of of the newly organized club was another speaker he deplored thel theatt act that many peo people ale are re theoretically in favor odthe league but afraid to come out in the open and declare their principles philosophers see dang ers ahead in moral and religious spheres and yet stop their mouths against anything in the nature ofa of a warning it if anything Is said it Is said within the four walls of the class room I hence fence it Is that students de celop habits of theo theory but forget the habits of practice declared mr air eggertsen the president of the club pointed out the purpose of the student organization iza tion he said the alir aim would be purely educational and that in an ut attempt would be made to reach every part of the state through a lectura and publicity campaign nass meetings will be held in many towns ind and cities an attempt will be made to nilst the sympathy and support of principals and superintendents of choals they will be invited to ito ake the leadership of the movement in their respective communities speakers competent to treat the subject in a scholar scholarly ly and nonpartisan non partisan way will be sent out from the university to address public assemblies pamphlets will be issued periodically and circulated throughout the state the membership of the club Is said to be growing rapidly many collegians both men and women are showing a keen interest in the new movement A membership fee of Is charged any citizen of the state Is eligible ton membership other officers beside Preel president dent eggertsen are gertrude S coolidge secretary treasurer and bryan johnson claude white and lone ione christensen Chrls membership ca committee there Is also an advisory board made up of the following faculty men dr E F E erickson dr george emory F fellows dr george S snoddy prof george coray prof leroy I 1 E cowles prof levi edgar young and prof B roland lewis |
