Show OAD R COMMISSIO INER AND COUNTY ROADS i the appointment of this important office should be considered in all its points we are informed that A M Iq murdock has been recommended by a majority of the board oj of county commissioners as road boac supervisor for duchesne county imd and that the minority commissioner mr gentry stood for the ap appointment of mr carmody of dytoh it is said there is strong feeling in myton over the matter and that a petition is being circulated there to lo defeat the ap pointe nt it of mr murdock if the po position stion of road supervisor is one of the most important to the people in the county good roads are the crying needs of the times much money has been squandered throughout the state in an the years past simply because of the inefficiency of road commissioners ners we could not endorse mr carmody carmady for this very important r position because we do not consider him a practical road man we a thing in the world against the man personally so nally but he seems to us entirely v without practical experience and we have found that most professional dional men take a long training in practical matters to make them efficient on oil I 1 the other h hind hand ind there are serious objections to the ap pointe of mr murdock mr murdock is a man irion of large af r fers fairs f er and ana of good judgment in these matters matter and there is no qu question of his hia efficiency if he i would rive give the matter his pernal i but ean can he do this or will he do this we can hardly conceive of A M murdock gurdock possibly ay the wealthiest man in the county spen spending dink his inre ime 1 at pa personal road oversee over see ing then again mr murdock A is a ym acry y strong personality and it will be hard bard for cit citizens lens of athe the county to feel that he will riot not use that personality and influence for the benefit of his big im mediate neighborhood as against the ilie balance of the county before voting for mr murdock we would vo 1 ild like to put these questions squarely up to him will you personally supervise the roads or will you delegate some rome incompetent to do this and th the e result be as it has been in in the building of the lower lend end of the indian canyon road where instead of nf following fallowing fal lowing a grade which emild cist no more to do TOT ram b every little r virte I 1 bank to ll get to go down it again will you agree that other por billins of the county shall have lem and other roads alan that leading thru the coun tv ty seat be given their just consideration our vote will be given on the basis of these answers the akes peak ocean to wan highway has been dafin bitely ly routed thru the basin to bc 11 div t lake city by bv way of heher heber wy and park city this road is to become one of tb the e wain arlain arteries of all basin travel is is proposed to heavily turnpike strawberry valley and thus 7 rn make e the fhe r road ad passable forlager for later 14 trave 1 in I 1 befall and for earlier travel aln in the spring K than is pos able over the willow creek umit summit this road must be bakeri baken raken care re of as it means mean very svery S erv edeh mu to the future of f the paskil aam waatch Wa laatch atch county will take S car of the road to the cholity line and d we must take st care c of it lac from there to the st with this road ii ia condition it is ls but natural that t it b benle rne the route of ru tr tr a te 1 tot arid I 1 from th the e state capitol and all points between provo and ogden we vve have expended a good deal of money on the helper road this has been perfectly right but we do not think we should continue these expenditures to the disadvantage of other roads of importance we have been loyal to the helper duchesne road and it has been made a very good summer road we still think it must be maintained this winter however has demonstrated that we must have a winter freight road it has been discovered that we are now producing and we will very materially increase that production annually much produce that can be exported to illustrate hay in northern utah and southern idaho is now selling for 35 and 40 a ton and it is not a matter of price but of petting getting the hay at any figure had we a good jim taylor turnpike from housekeepers on this side whitmore park on the price road to Whit mores on the other side the hay now in our stacks arid and being held over could have been delivered at price for 27 and thousands of dollars been brought into the basin with such a turri vike properly built there would be little or no road to winter teaming now we are not speaking of this in favor of myton as against duchesne but we are arguing forr for the UINTAH BASIN re regardless ard of any local point we are positive from personal investigation that a good road can jand and for the interests of the 11 g b basin a sin should be maint maintained aln from fiam price nto the basin wid and here is the program we ve wish to stand for price being the point most to be bene fitted by such a highway insist that price ond and carbon county build and maintain maint tin a good road from price to lo the county line at harmons let iet this county join with the gilsonite companies urging this road for their shipments with the sheep men who ship their wool this way and build a road to the county line from this end then insist that the state come to the a assistance ss istance of the road and help in its building and maintenance as one of the great arteries of state highways for the commerce of an inland empire to the nearest practicable railroad A branch of this road can be run from the draw past the shearing plant on antelope to the state highway for duchesne 6 by opening this road and making a good road of it most of the freight of the basin would go 90 this way this would relieve the wagon traffic over the helper road and it would be easier kept up as an automobile road we do not see that there need be friction or bad feeling over such a system of roads and we are sure the great majority of the people would be much bene fitted and easier ac access cess to rail transportation be given to those products we produce for export can we not pret get together on such a system of highways and mark make a united pull for them will not sucha system of roads be for the greater benefit of the majority of the citizens of the basin kletthe let the league take this matter up and be ready for the action of bf the state road commission when they make their initial visit in the sociability run j to be made into this basin basi n in I 1 june |
