Show RAILROADS VOR FOR UINTAH BASIN f V two parties of engineers left provo and spanish fork to make prelim preliminary inary surveys for the most feasible routes into the uintah basin for the oregon short line and salt lake railroads A third party according to an authentic ic report will leave this city in about ten days for the reservation er country and it is believed that provo prove canyon via heber chiy hobble creek canyon and diamond fork milliie the three routes the iwo wo roada will cover in their first bli bi g sur suk vey bev 11 j A report has been received from helper to the effect that a party of denver and rio grande engineers have surveyed a route from that city into duchesne county and have found that thata route too steep for practical purposes A new party has either left or will beave colton over the white river route into the basin the outlook for a railroad into the great uintah valley farming districts lias has never been so bright since the railroads first began sending parties into that rich ach section the fight which mas has developed indicates great inte interest reston on the part of the railroads who have at last come to realize that duchesne and uintah counties are coming into their own and will soon be ad their positions among the hie counties of the state already the denver rio grande has filed right of way maps with the united states land office at vernal for the line of its proposed uintah basin branch from duchesne to vernal the proposed line totaling miles niles C L mitten chief engineer pier in charge is surveying the rema remainder inder of the line from duchesne to helper an estimated distance of 53 55 miles the right of way maps indicate that the line will go from the west boundary of vernal past ast the tabernacle south to as ridge six miles crossling crossing i at a grade of I 1 per cent thence west above the halfway hollow and one mile south of port fort duchesne through independence pen dence two miles north of roosevelt and one mile north of myton alato n straight into duchesne the survey will be completed this fall and the engineers expect to see most of the rock blasting for the line completed by next spring provo prove will undoubtedly be the terminus or the junction of the new line to be built into the reservation er in case either the salt lake route or the oregon short line interests push their line into the basin against the proposed D R G either one of the three canyon routes mentioned would place provo prove in line for a junction and should a new road be organized provo would be the terminus provo post |
