Show our reporter the days ire are getting noticed j bly shorter friday afternoon the sixth and seventh grade played a game of ball the sixth grade challenged mcd the seventh 1 the writer of this article likes all kind of clean sport and is not in any sort opposed to racing if rightly conducted but if in bringing these races to roosevelt it is necessary to have some helf intoxicated men and others hockin the streets attempting to continue the ahe track races ar fong ona them the boys of the town he ceria certainly does think it is anything but elevating and has anything but a refining influence on the boys of the town prof washburn has designated three days in the very near future and which will be announced soon as parents vis ting biting days throughout the entire enire county A contest will be waged to see what school or schools can secure the largest number of visitors A record will be kept and results will be reported to the county superintendent en dent the school receiving the largest per cent of visitors according to its size shall receive due honors surely the parents arents will not let this opportunity slip by to visit the schools of P roosevelt oo sevelt and prove that w we are an educational town during the summer there were thirty eight windows broken out of the school house it has las taken over twenty dollars not counting the labor to replace them hem A community the size of roosevelt and as little money as there here is can hardly afford such a needless waste the school district can well afford to offer a rewa reward rd of five dollars for each and every conviction the parents should also warn warn the children that such wanton destruct tion ion of property cannot be tolerated and uphold the teachers in their attempt to collect for all damage to the school property A good way for the parents to do is to give the child the required amount of money and to then make it a point to make the he child earn the money back by ay working at the home or at other work prof washburn has districted the county into five districts and expects to hold district conventions during I 1 g the winter and in this way none of the teachers have to travel so far the roosevelt district comprises the roosevelt myton acl schools and all the little schools ca close lise saturday the convention was vas held in myton and six of the roosevelt teachers went over in harm car the morning was given riven over to the work of the primary grades mrs madsen gave some very good illustrations of how a child should be taught to read the myton teachers had some of the primary classes present and used them as object lessons in teach ing the various subjects such as singing arithmetic and seat work in the afternoon some general subjects were vere ably handl ed by mr washburn and some good adv ce was given the teachers mr budelier spoke in the afternoon A number of students which have gone to the county high school here in them the past year or two and who have not graduated seem to have gotten the idea that they have out grown roosevelt and the educational advantages offered here and are clam buring buring for their parents to send them away to provo or to some 0 ther other seaport just anywhere to be away from home the place for a boy or girl is right at home until they have secured all the education the local schools have to offer it brings to mind the fable of the two lizards which were basking in the sun and corn com pla ining of their condition one said we exist of course but we hold no sort of rank among animals 1 the other replied we if had just been born stags so we could range at large and see the world and be the pride of some mighty forest just then a pack of hounds were heard after the creature they were admiring and envying and being tired he was caught and torn to pieces before their very eyes said the wiser lizard let his sad fate teach us to bless providence for placing us in that humble situation in life which secures us from the dangers of a more elevated rank |
