Show Swain Calls For Joint Study Of Road Problem The Lions clubs of Roosevelt and Vernal are now in a position posi-tion to undertake joint study of a road problem that has plagued both communities for years whether to use available funds for improvement of the Lapoint-Vernal Lapoint-Vernal road, or whether instead spend the major portion of the money to make a state highway high-way of the Lapoint-Gusher road by improving it, according to Hank Swain, Roosevelt Lions president. Swain said he drew this impression im-pression from the words of Jack Turner, president of the Vernal Lions club road committee, commit-tee, who said recently that Vernal Ver-nal Lions plan to put forward efforts toward oiling of both the Lapoint-Vernal and Lapoint-Gusher Lapoint-Gusher roads. About six weeks ago the Roosevelt Roos-evelt Lions sent a committee composed of Swain and George Stewart to talk things over with the Lapoint road committee. commit-tee. The latter stated emphatically emphati-cally it preferred stressing improvement im-provement of the Gusher road, and was circulating a petition within the community to that effect. Swain says he thinks improvement im-provement of the Lapoint-Gusher road would be preferable, inasmuch as Harvey Hutchinson, Hutchin-son, district road engineer, with headquarters at American Fork, (believes it would cost much ,less to resurface and be easier ito maintain. The road between Lapoint and Vernal, Swain continues, con-tinues, is difficult to handle be-cause be-cause it twists through badlands. |
