FEB. 12 1 V I i 'ill -A W-7,VVS U I'y-lsV' rrr Cincinati, Ohio Commemorating the birth of America's sixteenth president, born February 12,1809, cadet officers of historic Ohio Military Institute salute the famous statue of Abraham Lincoln at Lytle Park, here, A work of sculptor George Gray Bernard, the statue was severely criticized when unveiled here in 19 17 because of the size of its feet, and hands and unstatesmanlike pose. It has since become recognized as a masterpiece of all time. Lincoln's last visit to Cincinnati was on his birthday, February 12, in 1861, just before the start of the war between the states. The twenty-third twenty-third president of the United States, Benjamin Harrison, was a student at Ohio Military Institute, located here in suburban College Col-lege Hill, when the school was known as Farmer's College. |
