Show Students Urged To Participate In Legion Event Announcement was made today to-day by Basin Post 64 of the American Legion that its annual oratorical contest will be held sometime prior to March 27, and urged all interested high school students to start preparing for the contest. . The theme of the J 947 oration will be: "The American Amer-ican Citizen's Right and Responsibilities Respon-sibilities Under the Constitution." Constitu-tion." Legion officials, in announcing the contest, advised that the same procedure will be followed as in previous years, namely that each contestant should be prepared pre-pared to deliver a 10 to 12 minute min-ute oration on the selected subject, sub-ject, and that he or she should also be prepared to talk extemporaneously extem-poraneously for 5 minutes on some subject concerning the Constitution of the United States. Following the locally sponsored spon-sored contests, regional meets will be held Saturday, March 29, in Tremonton, Kaysville, Murray, Mur-ray, Payson, Roosevelt, Richfield Rich-field and St. George. The winner from each of these districts will compete in Murray, Saturday, April 5 for the state prize. The winner of the state event will be given an award of a savings sav-ings bond and a fully financed trip to the national competition, which will be held during April, at come point of historical interest inter-est in the United States. Only students who are actually actual-ly enrolled in high schools during dur-ing the current school year are eligible to compete in the contest. con-test. Ken Trujillo, of Roosevelt, is the post and district chairman on Americanism, and is in charge of the oratorical contest. Basin Post will, this year, put forth every effort to promote wider interest in the oratorical contest, Mr. Trujillo slated.
