Show The Jlones9 AJrs Letter A Flop and a Washout President Truman and the Congress started at the very beginning of the special session in an angry mood each branch of the Government was looking for trouble and they found plenty of it. And when adjournment adjourn-ment arrived President Truman found no kind words of praise for Congress. And the leaders in Congress could not find it in their minds and hearts to cheer or praise the President, In short, the session of Congress was a flop and a washout' wash-out' that accomplished no useful use-ful purpose. Now, the Republican and Democratic parties are beginning begin-ning to carry on campaigns of xecrimination, hypocrisy and abuse. The issues in this election are obscure, and not limited to our broad domain. A troubled World is threatened with a third World War. Faitening-Up The Kitty It is common knowledge in Washington that the AFL, CIO, and other big labor groups are collecting campaign money from their members. This seems to have the approval of the Administration. Admin-istration. The . Democratic platform plat-form calls for a repeal of the Taft-Hartley Act. Some of the labor bosses insist that it is antiunion anti-union legislation. The Taft-Hartley Act is a sound law that protects equal rights, privileges and possible advantages to everybody who is a part of the American industrial system. If the welfare of any part of the country is threatened by strikes the Courts can enforce en-force peace and prevent strikes. The Courts can protect the rights of all employers and all workers. Washington assumes that President Pres-ident William Green of AFL and Philip Murray of the CIO, and other labor organizations are supporting Truman. On the other hand, Republican leaders insist that the labor vote will be split and that neither party may expect to win, or lose the election on account of the way union members will vote. Radical Changes Planned It is not generally known that former President Hoover has been working for a year with a small force of able men to develop de-velop a constructive plan for the reorganization of the executive execu-tive rights of the United States Government, - j The Hoover Commission has no power to make any changes but it will make its recommendations recommen-dations to the new Congress as soon as it meets next January. In establishing the Commission ; a year ago it ordered the members mem-bers to draw up plans to cut Government spending to the lowest level possible without harming1 the quality of service; to eliminate duplication of services; ser-vices; to abolish services and functions which are no longer needed. The Government-streamlining project is a strictly non-political undertaking. It's Up To The Communists The United Nations has been appealed to by Russian so-called diplomats to take steps to stop the making of atomic bombs. The Russians had the moriumen-tal moriumen-tal nerve to tell the United Nations Na-tions that the United States is not threatened by any Nation and therefore should stop making mak-ing bombs. But, Russia is threatening threat-ening us. On the other hand, the Soviet Government will have to stop its threatening attitude towards the United States and other Governments Gov-ernments or it may be stopped by the atomic bomb. The Soviet So-viet Government is today a challenge to peace among the Nations and Stalin and Molotov and their "gang" will have to let up on their threats against the United States . and World i peace before long. |
