Show i PETITIONERS OPPOSE ROOSEUELT HIGH SCHOOL REVAMPING PR00RAP1 objection Raised Over 'Unappropriated' $20,000 For Remodeling; Board To Hold Special Session Friday By C. L. F. rWroversy over the revamp-! revamp-! .program contemplated for f' g Roosevelt high school by the iuchesne County Board of Ed-. Ed-. Son moved rapidly toward a V Swdown Thursday afternoon i-ith the circulation of a petition J protesting excessive expendi-J expendi-J turcs on the old structure. BEARING thirty-seven signa-, signa-, hues of Roosevelt citizens the " petition addresses the Board of s Education: r "We, the undersigned citizens it and businessmen of the City of Boosevelt. hereby petition the Board of Education of Duchesne f countv asserting and affirming our disapproval of an action tak-r- en by said school board in apis ap-is preprinting $20,000 for the reno-t reno-t wtion and improvement of the nrescnt high school building in Roosevelt. We further recommend and approve any essential temporary I imorovements and construction whifh mav be expedient for the " making of the present building f more safe for immediate occu-1- pancy and use. However, we disapprove dis-approve and object to any material mater-ial changes in design or exten- sive construction which is not ab-d ab-d solutely essential for the safety and health of pupils and teach-ers teach-ers occupying said premises. "We endorse and approve the application of funds which might be available for building and ! construction, and any lawful means of acquiring and securing ' additional funds for the purpose fif constructing an entirely new V'?h school building in the City !rf Roosevelt.'" NO APPROPRIATION has ever been made for the remodeling remodel-ing of the Roosevelt high school. A year by year expenditure is all that has ever ben contemplated contem-plated by tho Board of Educa-tibn, Educa-tibn, and on the assumption that immediate student needs could be met in this way. It is generally conceded that a new hirm school building, vhofher financed lorallv or through a generous act of the Neral government is at least five yoars awav. So the Question Ques-tion arises, what k to be done about immediate high school fa-fiities fa-fiities for some 6 or 7 hundred Jtudpnts? There is no other building except the present Roosevelt Roos-evelt high in which the students on h taneht, and a new hich nonl building can not be dug m of thp bare earth with mere vishful thinking. It follows, therefore, that a vmr,ing rroeram to meet immediate im-mediate needs must be undertak-tat undertak-tat Roosevelt hieh with sights inod on the erection of a new Rehire the moment such a e can be undertaken. rr ISN'T a matter of wasting "loney. It's a case of investing in wueation. and education is ' mething more than a buildine.
