Show Moon Lake Chapter FFA Successful at S. L. At the recent Intermountain Junior Fat Stock show, the Moon Lake Chapter Future Farmers of America made an enviable en-viable record. This year's show was the largest show of its kind in the nation, and a truly great show, all the best herds in the intermountain area were represented repre-sented in the beef-sheep and hog divisions. There were 852 fat cattle, 261 fat hogs and 273 fat sheep entered in the show. The Moon Lake chapter was the third high rating chapter in the beef division and fourth high chapter in the entire show. There were thirty-four FFA chapters represented from Utah and Idaho. The Altamont High school are quite proud of this record when considering the fact that several chapters are from some of the largest high schools in the state, and some chapters have a membership mem-bership almost three times as large as the Moon Lake chapter. At the special live calf contest, Harry Fieldsted of Boneta was awarded a high quality feeder calf to be fed for the next year's show. This contest was conducted conduct-ed as follows: Eight of the leading lead-ing Hereford breeders of the state of Utah each donated a calf to be awarded to worthy boys. Four of these calves were to go to the 4-H groups and four to the FFA groups. Harry has made a real record in feeding fat beef calves. Last year he ex- hibited two blue ribbon calves at the Intermountain show at North Salt Lake and two at the Ogden show last November. This year he exhibited the reserve champion steer at the Altamont show and a blue calf at the Vernal Ver-nal show. He also exhibited three blue ribbon calves at the recent Salt Lake show. He won the fitting and showing contest at both of the basin shows. The Moon Lake chapter feel that they are entering a permanent perma-nent program of calf feeding here in the Uintah Basin as a result re-sult of their records at Salt Lake show. We regret to report that our instructor of Vocational Agriculture, Agricul-ture, Ray Greenhalgh is leaving Altamont this year. He has accepted ac-cepted a teaching position at the Millard High school in Fillmore. We are grateful to Mr. Greenhalgh Green-halgh for his help in putting over ov-er the Moon Lake Chapter on a winning basis. |
