Show THE AMERICAN WAYl THE -SIXTH ' COLUMN By Georg Pct--J The Second World War introduced intro-duced a new phrase into the English language "Fifth Column." Col-umn." .We can vividly recall the paralyzing and devastating effects ef-fects of Fifth Column activities upon Poland, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, France, Belgium Bel-gium and even upon Eneland. America was threatened but, thanks to our Federal Bureau of Investigation, we were saved from the sad fate that overtook sa many of the European nations as a result of Fifth Column depredations. dep-redations. The thing we have to fear in America today is what I would term ''The Sixth Column." It is far more dangerous than "Fifth Column" because most of us are not aware that it exists. Even most of its members would indignantly deny belonging to it. As far as they are concerned it is a secret organization and they are not in on the secret. As I see it this "Sixth Column" Col-umn" is made up of three principal prin-cipal groups: inc first comprises those countless thousands of native-born native-born Americans who see in the present situation a failure of our American System of Free Enterprise En-terprise and are demanding that it be scrapped; who have come to the conclusion that "Capitalism "Capital-ism is dying on its feet;" that the "Profit System" is out-moded, and that we must subsitiute for it a "System of Production-For-Use-Not-For-Prnfit " The second and very prominent promi-nent group in the Sixth Column circles are the millions who sit idly by, failing1 to exercise their electoral franchise, who are too lazy or indifferent to make the the simple efforts of registering register-ing and going to the polls to vote. The third group rounding out the "Sixth Column" is the most dangerous element in it because its components are in positions of power and influence. These are the beaucrats who have succeeded suc-ceeded in centralizing more and more power in the Federal Government, Gov-ernment, the very thing which our Founding Fathers so sagely and studiously were at great pains to lay down rules for the avoidance thereof. This is a group which has left no stone unturned to hamper legitimate hnsinpss anH In rppimpnt fhr American people. Well, what can we do about this "Sixth Column?" The first group," made up of the defeatists, defeat-ists, by application of a common-sense common-sense educational campaign, perhaps per-haps can be weaned away from their false ideas and delusions of futility. As to the second group, comprising com-prising the "Laissez-Faires," the "Let - George - Do - Its" and the "Don't-Give-A-Darns," we must do everything possible to arouse them from their lethargy, to shame them into doing their patriotic pa-triotic duty of exercising their precious right to vote The third group, the "Brass Hats," only can be handled by the Congress from which they have usurped power. Therefore, this coming November 2nd we must elect a Congress that will rout every last one of them from the nation's capital. With their migration from Washington, constitutional government will have been restored and we will be well on our way to peaceful and equitable solutions of our many economic and social problems. prob-lems. That definitely would be "curtains" "cur-tains" for the "Sixth Column." |
