Show OF THE WEEK Conserves are a delicious variation from the regular jams and so we suggest you try the following Peach a recipe submitted by Virginia Young for the recipe book published by the Utah Democratic Women's Club The Plum Conserve was taken from the cook book sponsored by the Fort Duchesne Women's Club PEACH CONSERVE 6 cups peaches peeled and sliced 2 grated orange rind cup orange juice and pulp 2 cups light syrup 4 cups sugar 1 cup chopped 1 cup marachino Combine first four ingredients Bring to stirring constantly Reduce cook slowly 25 Add cook till quite thick about 1 to 1 Vs hours Add nuts and cherries last ten minutes Pour into hot sterilized Makes 2 Do not double recipe as that alters cooking time PLUM CONSERVE plums cups sugar cup seedless raisins cup coarsely chopped nuts cup water Vz allspice lA tsp cinnamon Steam plums in water in covered kettle for 15 Put through colander or Yield about Mix together plum spices and raisins which have been Bring to boil Cook 15 stirring frequently Add nut meats the last 5 minutes of Remove from and pour into hot sterilized jars Seal at Yields about 7 half-pint jars To plump wash and spread on flat Cover and heat in moderate until they puff and wrinkles |
