Show Water tax increase explained In this week's issue of the Clipper readers will see a Notice j published by the Bountiful Water Subconservancy District, i which operates the pressure irrigation system for the BountiM- I area, indicating that a tax increase is proposed for 1987. With ' ' the thought that this notice, without some explanation, might be misleading, the following information might afford some clarification. clarifi-cation. The Bountiful Water District has been furnishing pressure irrigation service since 1960 and during the entire period has only increased its yearly service charges three times in 27 years, even though this period has covered some years of high inflation, infla-tion, as well as years when the amount of the District's loan payments to the Bureau of Reclamation to cover original construction con-struction costs have increased considerably. As readers will see from the Notice, no increase in the District's Dis-trict's overall Budget supported by tax revenues is proposed for the year 1987, but $11,200 more will come from Property Tax revenues, some of this being generated by new growth which has occurred within the District. However, the entire $1 1,200 is slightly less than the amount the State Legislature has required be eliminated from the Budget representing the cost which the District budgeted to cover 1986 tax collections which Davis County has been charging for collecting its Property Taxes, which now are being collected by the Counties within the State at a cost covered by a County-wide levy. Without that change the small increase in the Property Taxes for 1987 would not have been needed. To put the tax increase in perspective, the increase proposed will mean about 76 cents more for a home valued at $70,000 or about $1.08 for a $!00,000 home. The District intends to continue to do everything it can to hold down costs and to render efficient service, and will welcome calls at any time. As the Notice states, you are invited to attend the hearing if j you choose , or to call the District for further clarification of the Notice if desired. The District's telephone number is 295-5573, and its office is located at 385 West 500 South, Bountiful, Utah. Merrill T. Tuttle, Manager Bountiful WateiQ Subconservancy DistrictN i |
