Show Uintah District sponsors summer program This is the second consecutive year wherein the Ute Tribe is sponsoring a summer school program at the Todd and Whiterocks schools for approximately Indian For an eight-weeks the Tribe is bringing to school those youngsters who will be entering kindergarten this It is the purpose of this program to assist these youngsters and bring them to an educational level which is comparable to that of the non-Indian kindergarten In this program special cm-phases are placed on language vocabulary and assuming responsibility in groups and assisting the youngster in the adjustment in the school situation this There are approximately 45 children Involved in this program under the direction of four Two groups are attending the School and two groups are attending the Todd This is an eight-weeks There is also a group of 75 Indian students attending the Whiterocks there are five teachers working with these The students are in class from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Monday through Emphasis in the classes are placed in the basic school subjects with additional help in the area of remedial The remainder of the day when these youngsters are not in school is spent at the Youth which is located in the mountains north of The program which is conducted at the School is for the girls from the Cute Ute These girls attend school Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. These students are receiving instruction in the areas of cooking and Two teachers arc working with the 25 girls in this The educational program is under the supervision of the Uintah School |
