Show Celebrates 97th Date Mary Woolslayer celebrated cele-brated her97th binhday Jan. 5. She is a resident at the Heritage Herit-age Place Retirement Home at 1150 S. Main, Bountiful. MARY'S parents were both natives of Switzerland and later la-ter moved to the United States to Pennsylvania. Mary was born in Pittsburgh on Jan. 5, 1887. She was one of seven children. Farm life was Mary's way of life all through her young years, even after her family moved to Utah. AT THE age of five, Mary contracted Diptheria and was left with only partial hearing. As a result of improper medical medic-al treatment she was left nearly totally deaf. Mary attended the Ogden School for the Deaf w here she graduated in 1907. She then completed three years at the . 4 'i -. -., - ? ... - ; ) MARY WOOLSLAYER University of Utah, working her way through by doing housework in various homes. She graduated from the University Uni-versity of Utah with a bachelor of science degree in June of 1916. MARY WENT to Austin, Tex. where she taught physical education at the third largest school for the deaf in the United Un-ited States. Later she taught at a school for the deaf in Virginia. Virgi-nia. In the fall of 1922 she went to Danville, Ky. to teach and was employed there until her retirement. Mary has traveled to Europe and the Holy Land and many places in the United States. She loves to read and we find her reading nearly all of the time. She loves animals and flowers. Her favorite flower is the rose. She is presently the oldest resident at Heritage Place. |
