Show 4 The County Agents Report Duchesne County Farm News By Robert Murdock and Lloyd Smith ASSOCIATION This week I would like to congratulate members of the Cattle for their wonderful spirit and determination to make their association one that all members would be proud to Our group had their annual meeting last Friday night at the Roosevelt City Park where they and their partners enjoyed barbecued hamburgers and other fine food which you usually get from pot-luck They had prepared a very fine program with some of the boys and girls of our members and all those in attendance enjoyed and appreciated this fine We could have had a larger group but those of us that were present were impressed by this group of ladies who are trying so hard to help thier partners in the beef During election of officers had the same elected to carry the association for another year with Ruth Knight as Beatrice Winterton as Vice President and Leora as secretary and These ladies have been the officers for past eight months and have certainly hard to get this association functioning and I am sure that by time another year rolls by we will see a more active and much stronger Our men's group which is the Duchesne Cattle will have to keep on its toes if we are going to continue the enthusiasm that our ladies have The honor of the evening went went to cattleman W. C He received a very fine presented our in behalf of the Duchesne County father of the Foy was chosen by these and his name submitted as a candidate for the state Congratulations to on our Duchesne Coun-ty Father of the Yearl IRRIGATION I know it certainly is a temptation here in the Uintah Basin to not let a stream of water run by your but I would like to caution you farmers to not try to use all the water that is available at the present Our land is very much like a It can only absorb so much then after it is filled the water that we continue to pour on it will just rob the very badly needed soil nutrients that are in our Not only will it rob our soil but as all you farmers it will water log our soil so let's not try to use all the water we can at this Irrigate when but do not irrigate when it is not If you are more interested in this irrigation I would invite you to give me a call some and I will visit your place with my soil augar and will give you some instructions on how to determine whether or not your soil needs ECONOMIC POISON LAW We have a new law in effect here in the Uintah Basin for the first time this summer that is going to concern everybody wh uses insecticides to control This is called the Poison and through the request of the alfalfa seed and bee keepers here in the Basin this law was put into force eaily this It is a law in which there is a lot of fine but to boil it down I would like to say that it is a law stating that alfalfa should not be sprayed between daylight hours of a.m. to p.m. unless you get a release from the Agricultural Hale Last year due to our spraying we suffered quite a severe loss of mostly the alkali bee and the honey Here in the Uintah Basin we produce a lot of alfalfa seed and without pollinators it would be impossible to produce this this law had be put into I know it might be quite confusing at the but if you are in doubt and have a question or two we would invite you to call our office and perhaps I can give you some assistance if our Agricultural Inspector is not but please let's try to work as we know each must live and wc to get along with our neighbors if we are to make the Uintah Basin a seed producing area |
