Show r The County Agents Report Duchesne County Farm News By Robert Murdock and Lloyd Smith I EDITOR'S NOTE The following article was written by Bob Murdock of observations in his RAIN AND FERTILIZER The recent rain that we've been getting has certainly done a lot to improve the morale of us living in the Uintah Our range lands and farm lands certainly do look which always brings me around to thinking now that wc have a good what can we do to keep things and I would like to suggest that right now is a mighty good time to put on some nitrate fertilizer on all your pasture and grain know nitrate is the fertilizer that stimulates your pastures and your and as I have told many of there is no bank in the world that will pay a dividend that a sack of nitrate fertilizer will pay to the I am sure that I am safe in saying that every dollar spent in fertilizer you will receive from returned growth from your plants to The hard thing about it I know is getting that little bit of extra cash to get if I would suggest that you buy a few even if it is on a limited so that you can see what a great response it will and that is just the way Charlie Crozier up in is doing this Charlie bought a few bags of and on his pasture he Is spreading about one bag to acre on some of his land and on another small part of It he is putting about two bags to the On another small strip he is putting somewhere around three bags to the so he certainly will know before the summer is over whether or not he should use t PHOSPHATE FERTILIZER Just a word on phosphate It is never too late to apply but fall is the best as it takes the phosphate fertilizer considerably longer to break down so it can be utilized by the plants than does it take for the nitrate so if you should apply phosphate now you possibly would not see any response until about the second crop of PASTURES I have been talking about the fertilization program on pasture and now I would like to talk just a little about varieties of seeds to plant and Theron Horrocks at will be able to tell you possibly next year which is the best between Lincoln inter mediate wheat grass and orchard grass as he has made a planting of all three of so those of you who are interested might keep in touch with as I- certainly Deone Spencer also at Neola has decided to do about quack grass that has been taking over some of his and crop and last fall under my direction Deone applied some Weeda-zol to try to control quack and wc were not very encouraged until late this but it looks like in his case anyway the Weed-azol is doing a good job in controlling quack It seems like the Neola people have had a lot of interest this year in their pasture and as when I was up there last Edith asked me to come in and see her pasture and to make recommendations as to what might be done to improve In this where I don't believe Edith could I believe some fertilizer and just a little trial or two of the domestic grasses would improve the carrying capacity on this DRAFT STALLION It has been several years now since people have been very much concerned with the old work horse and I very pleased when I stopped in at Royal Horrocks's place the other day to talk to him and his about to see that Royal had a good looking draft I believe he is a as I and I did see a mighty nice looking animal good shoulders and good weighing about well-marked and to have a good so those of you who are interested in raising some work horses might discuss this with I have been pretty busy down Randlett way doing work with Myron who is the farm manager for the Indian Myron is doing a good job and we have kinda figured out a fertilization and cropping and we are going to have some trials there on grain and corn that we hope jve will be able to give some information to you people on in another I see iLee Alhandra has got the water on his young alfalfa down and he has a mighty fine has some more land plowed and it looks like in the near is going to be a full-time and that goes also to Ouray McCook and his In talking with I understand that they have taken another so with all the land they have now I believe they will pretty well be kept out of I had an interesting meeting the other evening with members of the Ute Tribe Recreational Committee and our Recreation Specialist from the Utah State Clayne was down from the college to give some instructions and assistance on organized which included tennis and With the recreation hall there at the Indian people certainly have a good program and I congratulate these leaders for this fine I have been working with Ross Iorg in getting the recreation building landscaped and those of you as- you pass the Randlett recreational hall will notice that some new soil is being hauled and they are really going ahead with landscaping In closing I would like to encourage you folks to come in and visit with Our office is located in the Frandsen Building in Your County Robert S. and your Home
